Welcome to the 5o5 EuroCup 2009

The Eurocup 2009 consists of the following regattas:

St. Raphael, France - april 10 - 12 Info Results

Riva del Garda - may 21 - 23 Info Results

Aarhus, Denmark - june 13- 14 (site for the worlds 2010) Info Results

Kiel, Germany - june 24 - 28 (Kielerwoche) Info

So, this years Eurocup is over. 160 boats have participated in the series this year, and we had 101 boats on the starting line at the finals in Kiel, maybe the biggest event this year.
The regatta in Kiel was one of the best ever held there, because the wind was from the east or northeast the entire time, so no wierd wind. lots of big waves (cause of a days canceled racing).
Thanks to the German 505 class association for an excelent event.

2 boats have competed in all 4 eurocup events, Stefan Köchlin / Andréas Achterberg in GER 8958 and Jari Hamström / Tuomas Laurila in FIN 8632.
The fight for the top spot was unusually close with GER 8875 Jens Findel / Johannes Tellen and GER 8957 Dr. Wolfgang Hunger / Julien Kleiner tied with 6 points. Jens Findel and Johannes Tellen took the top spot by having won no less than 2 of the 4 eurocup events. Congratulations!
All told, 22 boats competed in 3 or more of the EuroCup regattas. This is twice as many as last year. Keep up the support for this great series.

Just 1 1/2 weeks to go till the big final in Kiel. Only 24 boats showed up in Aarhus, but it was a very strong field that did show up. The conditions were rough, with over 30 knots of wind early in the morning, dropping to 20 to 25 knots. This meant that the first race was postponed till 2pm. This meant that we only got 3 races on the 1 mile long course. Each race lasted about 1 hour, and because of the direction, it was very shifty and gusty. Especially at the windward mark. Sunday the wind had dropped, so it was now only 15 to 20 knots, but the direction was more or less the same. This meant more shifts and more gusts. Quite challanging conditions, with the possibility to make large gains. Jens Findel showed his strong form and won this regatta as well. Jacob and Jørgen Bojsen-Møller came in 2nd, with Dr Wolfgang Hunger taking up 3rd spot. Thanks to Aarhus Sejlklub for a great regatta under some quite harsh conditions.
This has shown us what a great place Aarhus is to sail in, and we look forward to coming back for the Worlds next year.

After a great weekend on lake Garda we are now at 99 participants in the EuroCup. Jens Findel and Johannes Tellen showed strong form by winning 5 of the 8 races in varying Ora conditions.
In the top 10 we have 7 different nationalities, truely an international class worthy!
At the top of the series we have a tie between Ian Pinnell and Stefan Koechlin for first and second, and another tie for 3rd and 4th.
Best mixed crew is GER Sophie Soellner and Wolfgang Stueckl in 5th place.
Best all female crew is GER 8751, Nicola Birkner and Angela Stenger in 12th spot.
Thanks to the organizers for another great regatta.

The regatta in St Raphael is now over. 66 teams raced at the event and according to the reports, they had 5 great races and one day of Mistral. Boats from As far away as Finland and Ireland had come to this event. Great to see such a turnout. Congratualtions to Morten Bogachi and Holger Jess for the victory and Sophie Soellner and Wolgang Stueckl for the best mixed crew. Best all female crew is Nicola Brikner and Angela Stenger in 21st place. Exelent work. It looks to be a very good Eurocup year.

Last year we had 130 boats participating in the series. Lets see if we can do better this year. The regattas in Denmark and Kiel are placed so you can race in Aarhus and leave your boat in Kiel on your way home, to return a week and a half later for the EuroCup finals and Europeans.

It is an amazing program that the organizers have thrown together in Kiel for the Europeans. It really will be the must-attend event for all that aren't going to San Francisco for the worlds.
